Dave, unfortunately I personally do not know any USUA instructors in NJ. Even the USUA which is located in Lewes Delaware about 2 hours from our area does not list any in Delaware. The FAA lists Light sport aircraft flight instructors and there are two listed for NJ. http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/spo
rt_pilot/media/airplane

. You are welcome to attend our next meeting on the last Monday of January 2016 and talk to other members. Our meeting location is at the bottom of our home page

Hello from Morris , NJ. So it appears trying to find ultralight instruction outside of CA or FL is like finding a needle in a haystack. Are there any recommendations in the New Jersey area that are not defunct? I am looking for an USUA ultralight certification.

I took a look at the adventura II specifications (see below) and it does not meet the criteria of part 103 for ultralights. It's too fast has a big gas tank and it's too heavy.

ENGINE HORSEPOWER: 100 HP
CRUISE SPEED: 85 MPH
TOP SPEED: 105 MPH
NEVER EXCEED SPEED: 105 MPH
STALL SPEED FULL FLAPS: 38 MPH
STALL SPEED NO FLAPS: 47 MPH
TAKE OFF DISTANCE: LAND/WATER: 250'
RATE OF CLIMB; VY 1100 FPM
ENDURANCE: 4 Hours
SERVICE CEILING: 13,500'
LENGTH: 23'
WINGSPAN: 30' 8"
HEIGHT: 7'
WING AREA (SQ. FT.): 161.7'
CONSTRUCTION TIME: 200 Hrs.
EMPTY/GROSS WEIGHT: 800/1430#

Editors note: Take-off and landing distance on land and not over 50ft obstacle

Part 103 of the of the FAR Federal Aviation Regulations explains the criteria for the ultralight category. The short short answer is the weight of aircraft cannot exceed 254 pounds (empty weight) and the fuel capacity cannot exceed 5 gallons. The aircraft cannot be capable to exceed 55 knots (calibrated) lastly had the power off stall speed which does not exceed 24 knots.

I see nothing on the calendar, nothing in events, nothing for sale on this site. Is it defunct and failed?

I am considering purchasing an Adventura II, Is this plane considered an ultralight and can it be admitted to your club? When is the next meeting? And where?
